Junghans J17 / J17a

18 1/2”’ | Hand Wind | Swiss Lever | Small Seconds |
Remarks:
- Movement available in two version:
- J17: ‘Master’ watch movement, cut compensating screw balance, Breguet steel hairspring
- J17a: ‘Quality’ watch movement, uncut screw balance, compensation Breguet hairspring
- The movement shown here seems to be a J17a. Probably all J17a are marked with 17, not 17a. So far I have never seen one that was marked with 17a.
- The Junghans J16 ist the Lépine (open face) version of this Savonnette (hunter) movement
- In the booklet ‘Taschenuhren aus dem Hause Junghans’ (Pocket watches from the Junghans company) Junghans writes that production of the J17 started in 1914, but the J17 was not mentioned in Junghans pocket watch catalogs before 1927. The movement shown here comes from a pocket watch from around 1930.
