  • 304 is not an official caliber designation, but a military project number given by the Chinese governement to develop chronograph watches for pilots. Project 304 was launchend in 1961. It was managed by the Tianjin Watch Factory (later named Sea-Gull), which developed the ST3, based on the design of the Swiss Venus 175. The ST3 was modernized and became the ST19, which is still in productions today.
In 1969 project 304 was transferred to the Fenglei Instruments Factory. It is unclear whether the ST3 movement was also manufactured there initially or whether work began immediately on developing the movement shown here, which resembles the Valjoux 23 more than the Venus 175.
  • These movements can be found in watches of the brand ‘Captain’. Around the year 2000 a number of these watches came onto the market. It is not clear if a stock of old movements had been cased-up or if manufacturing had restarted.
